Local means local
There's a practical reason we keep the radius tight. Excavating means moving heavy equipment, and every mile of lowboy travel is time nobody's digging. Staying close means we can get to you quickly, come back the same week if something needs adjusting, and price the job without a pile of mobilization built into it.
It also means we know the ground. Limestone and shallow bedrock through much of Jefferson County, heavier clay in spots around Berkeley, and county health departments whose septic processes we've been through many times over. That's not knowledge you can bring in from two hours away.
The Panhandle is narrow enough that state lines are just part of the geography here. Loudoun and Clarke County, Virginia sit right across the river, close enough that a job over there can be a shorter run than one at the far end of our own state.

Across the line
Northern Virginia work
Being twenty minutes from the Virginia line is one of the practical advantages of working out of the Panhandle. A job in Loudoun or Clarke County is often a shorter run for us than one at the far western end of West Virginia.
What changes across a line is the paperwork. Contractor licensing, permits and inspections are state and county specific, and there's no automatic reciprocity between West Virginia and Virginia. We'll tell you up front what your jurisdiction requires and how that affects the timeline before we quote.

More than people expect. Septic permits, building permits and erosion control are all administered at county level, so the same job can follow a different process depending on which side of the line your property sits.
Jefferson County
Kearneysville, Charles Town, Ranson, Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown, Summit Point, Middleway, Bakerton, Rippon.
Septic permits go through the Jefferson County Health Department, and the site evaluation drives everything. Limestone and shallow bedrock are common, which affects both digging and what kind of septic system a lot will support.
Berkeley County
Martinsburg, Hedgesville, Falling Waters, Inwood, Bunker Hill, Gerrardstown, Darkesville.
Septic permits go through the Berkeley County Health Department, and a septic permit generally has to be in hand before a building permit is issued — which is why it should be the first thing you start, not the last.
Morgan County
Berkeley Springs and surrounding areas.
Our western edge. More rural, more acreage work, longer runs for utilities and access lanes. We take jobs here, though scheduling may be a little less flexible than closer to home.

Coverage questions, answered
How far will you travel for a job?
Roughly an hour from Kearneysville covers most of what we do. Beyond that it depends on the size of the job — a week of site work justifies the travel where a half-day drainage fix doesn't. Call and ask; we'll give you a straight answer rather than driving out to quote something we can't price competitively.
Do you work in Virginia?
Yes. Loudoun and Clarke County are within our normal range — parts of them are closer to us than parts of West Virginia. Licensing and permitting differ by state with no automatic reciprocity, so tell us where the property is when you call and we'll confirm what applies before we quote it.
Do you work in Maryland?
No. We're set up for West Virginia and Virginia work, and that's where our licensing and county knowledge are. For a Maryland property you'll want a contractor licensed there.
Do you charge for the estimate visit?
No. On-site estimates within our service area are free. We'd rather look at the ground than guess over the phone, and you'd rather have a number that holds.
How quickly can you get out to look at it?
Usually within a few days for the estimate visit. When the work can start depends on the season, the weather and what's ahead of you — spring and fall are busiest. If your job needs a permit or a perc test, that's the real constraint, so call earlier than feels necessary.
Does the county matter for my project?
Often, yes. Septic permits, building permits and erosion control requirements are handled county by county, and the processes differ. In Berkeley County a septic permit generally has to be issued before a building permit, which changes the order you have to do things in.
